4 out of 5 stars Easy Enough   August 19, 2010
Janelle Vergien
I have to admit I am overall pleased with this. My Boxer has black nails, and I hate cutting them becuase I can't see his quick. It runs on C batteries, c'mon who uses C batteries anymore, but other than that it is powerful enough for my dog's nails without being harsh. It didn't freak my dog out, he just doesn't like holding still. It doesn't hurt the dog, and its easy enough that I can get my husband to do the dogs nails with this. I would have to say, atleast for right now, that this is worth buying and was a good investment for us.

2 out of 5 stars Worked great...Until it died   August 13, 2010

I have a Westie who used to LOVE getting his nails trimmed and hand filed until we took him to a groomer who cut his quick. Then, he just started freaking out whenever he even SAW the nail clippers. So, we got this product and loved it for quite a while, until one day, it just quit. Upon taking it apart, we discovered that the powder that is created when the nail is filed was forced back down through the unit (even considering that I stop and clear it out multiple times while filing his nails). The powder can be cleaned out of the battery housing. However, the motor is encased in a single-piece metal cover that makes it impossible to clean out. So, basically, I could buy a new one, but would have the same problem, eventually. I would recommend getting another, similar product, but whatever you buy, check to be sure that the powder can't find its way down into the motor casing and cause a short.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   August 9, 2010

I got the first PediPaws that has a rechargeable battery. The dogs were easily adapted because it runs quietly. The bad news is that it only charged 3 or 4 times with enough power. I am going to try this one, hoping it will also be quiet. I like the design. Smooth nails save me a lot of scratches.

1 out of 5 stars THIS $10 WILL COST YOU THOUSANDS!!!   August 9, 2010

Cliff notes: DO NOT USE THIS!!!

Full report:
I was trying to work my dog into getting used to it. I showed it to her blah blah blah. The INSTANT it hit her nail she freaked so hard that she dislocated her hip (as someone falmiliar with this dislocation, let me tell you you wish you were giving birth; that's so much more pleasant). I've never seen anything like it. Every muscle in her body activated to get away. Now I have an appointment with an orthopedist in the morning to remove the ball joint from her femur (Femoral Head Ostectomy <- Google that!). Now I'm going to be $3000 (+ $10 for the crappy tool) in the hole. Use something else! Yesterday morning my dog was running around and happy. Today she is loaded up with morphine waiting for surgery in the morning.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS! It MAY work, but you are gambling with a lot:
1) the health of your animal
2) your free time (there is a 6 week recovery time for my pup)
3) a lot of money
4) your animal's health

My dog will never be the same and that makes me incredibly sad. In the morning I watched her run and jump from a 5 foot ledge at speed hit the ground and go yell at the neighbor... Just like always. I am now looking at my dog locked in a small kennel gripped by the paranoia caused by morphine. DO NOT DO IT! I only wish I had looked for some reviews; I also wish I were the one hurt right now, it was MY mistake.
