EXCELLENT product - but some downsides I didn't think of June 30, 2008 J. Shankman (Virginia) I adopted my first hamster earlier this month (yes, there are hamster rescues) and did TONS of research before buying anything. I looked at a lot of cages and am glad I got this. My hammy, Filbert, LOVES it and it's so big that I can put lots of toys in there for him. The construction is solid. The bottom tray is high enough that I don't get any bedding or food tossed out. However, there are some down sides. They are in no way manufacturing flaws - they are just things that I didn't even consider when purchasing this product that I wanted to make sure others think about... 1. Since this cage is SO huge, you will use A LOT of bedding on the floor of the cage...and I mean A LOT. 2. The top comes off to allow easy access for cleaning the bottom - which is GREAT! But the top itself is a challenge. With the tubes coming off of the shelves, you can't just put the top down on the counter. And considering the mess Filbert makes in his cage, I can't lay the top down on its side before cleaning it. 3. The wheel that comes with this is really too small for Syrian hamsters. 4. The "shelves" are great and offer extra room for your hamster to play, but they can also offer small places for your hammy to hide under! Again - I feel none of these are manufacturer flaws, just things I wish I had thought about. Granted, this cage ROCKS so I probably still would have bought it. If you take your hammy out a LOT to play with, you may be fine with a smaller cage. But if you're like me and don't take your hammy out for long periods of time, this cage is nice & big for him/her to run around in all night!
Excellent cage for hamsters! May 30, 2008 J. C. Serna (Hoboken, NJ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is by far the best cage you can get in the US. For starters, it is huge- I was taken aback when the box came. We bought the Marchioro Jack 72 for our two dwarf hamsters and they are incredibly happy with it. The cage itself is very well made, the instructions are simple- just sequential pictures. The two plastic ledges are not flimsy and are very sturdy. The clips that clip the ledges to the wire are slightly fiddly. The tubes are also great- lots of ventilation and looks a lot wider than say crittertrail tubes. A Syrian could fit into it with no problems and our dwarves can dance in them. Three things I did not use with the cage: 1. The wheel is garbage and it's noisy, but then again what cage comes with a good wheel? We replaced it with two 6.5 inch super pet silent spinners; 2: the water bottle wasn't too swell, we replaced that with the Lixit flat back 5 oz bottle (also highly recommended); 3: the two little food trays- this was personal preference, I didn't like the look of it so I have separate food dishes for them. The potty that comes with the cage is excellent- lots of room for both to maneuver. All in all the best cage- I would recommend this highly to people looking to house either two dwarves or one Syrian.
JAK 72 HAMSTER RESORT CAGE May 12, 2008 James P. Herlihy (QUINCY, MA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
THIS IS THE BEST CAGE! I JUST RECEIVED IT TODAY AND IT IS HUGE! IT WILL HOLD EVERYTHING YOU NEED PLUS SOME. MY HAMSTER "HAMILTON" LOVES IT ESPECIALLY THE TUBES. I HAD RETURNED A 3 STORY WIRE CAGE - THERE IS NO COMPARISON TO THIS CAGE. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE ROOM FOR HIM TO RUN AROUND. THE QUALITY OF THE CAGE IS GREAT PLUS ALL THE EXTRAS THAT COME WITH IT.
This Cage is Great! April 11, 2008 David Trend 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just got the Jack 72 hamster resort for my son's birthday. His birthday is early April, so he got his hamster, Chip, for Easter. He was so exited! So was Chip! At first he was a little too exited-and anxious. But he's getting used to it and figuring out how to get up and down using the tubes. And overall, both Chip and his daddy loved the cage. Awesome cage!
Best Hamster Cage January 22, 2008 Mia (FL) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
We've owned a couple of other hamster cages, and this one is by far the BEST CAGE YOU CAN BUY FOR YOUR HAMSTERS!!! We did a lot of research before we bought it and discovered it's actually the largest hamster cage of its type sold in the US. There are some other cage set-ups that are fairly nice, as well, such as using an aquarium with a cage topper, but the toppers that fit onto "20 gallon long" size aquariums (the size recommended for hamsters) are VERY EXPENSIVE and the floors of the toppers have metal bars, which really hurt (and can injure) a hamster's legs and feet! I have 3 hamsters (2 Syrians, and 1 Dwarf), and they all 3 love this cage! The photo is deceiving... It's so much larger in person! This cage is huge (28" L x 17" W x 16" H). MOST HAMSTER CAGES (on the net and in pet stores) DO NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH ROOM FOR HAMSTERS TO RUN AROUND AND DO NOT FIT THEIR TOYS. Some are not even large enough to fit an 8" wheel (the size required for a fully-grown Syrian). THIS CAGE FITS EVERYTHING A HAMSTER COULD POSSIBLY NEED - INCLUDING A LARGE 8" WHEEL!!! Our 2 Syrians each have the following in their cages - a large igloo (under one of the shelves), 3 food bowls, 2 water bottles, the 2nd story hide-out (that comes with the cage), the hamster potty (that comes with the cage), 2 large hanging wood chew ka-bobs, a "Chube" tunnel, and an 8" Transoniq Wodent Wheel (which we attached to the side with zip ties to save floor space). And there is still plenty of room to run around! TIP: To save floor space, we attached the left shelf in the BACK left corner (as shown in photo) and attached the right shelf in the FRONT right corner. Then, we attached the Wodent Wheel to the back side of the cage with black zip ties (high enough for our hamsters to walk right onto the wheel from the right shelf). We had to remove the clip to remove the wheel from the stand, and then reattached the wheel to the stand after we passed the stand through the bars. It took a few minutes, but it was actually very easy. It's works great, looks awesome, and the hamsters love it! The tubes in this cage are very well designed! They are large enough around to easily accomodate our 2 fully-grown Syrian Hamsters, yet easy enough to climb (due to the bubble shape) that even our tiny Russian Dwarf has no problem whatsoever getting up them (and he sometimes struggles with tubes)! I actually ordered this cage from Horseloverz and paid only $46, which was a great a deal. My only complaint is that when the cages arrived, the pre-assembled parts were assembled incorrectly, so we had to redo those. The sides of the cage and the cage doors were upside down, so the shelves wouldn't fit at first, but we used a butter knife and a pair of plug-nose pliers to take those parts off and reassemble them properly, which was pretty easy. Once we did that, everything was perfect! I highly recommend you buy this cage! 5 STARS!!! It's well worth the money!
